To the Editor:
The Ferguson, Mo., protests have really started something. It has gotten a lot of people involved, encouraged by some promoters that would like to destroy our country and our justice system. I don't believe a lot of people really know what they are doing. And they are putting a lot of pressure on our police.
We have the police to protect us and enforce our laws, and they put their lives in danger every day. They do their job. Their authority should be respected. If they stop someone to arrest them, or even just to question them, and they resist and put up a fight and get hurt or even killed, that would be their own fault and the police should not be responsible.
If we keep limiting the police's ability to do its job, this will soon be a Wild West country where we all have to carry a gun to protect ourselves. Those protest crowds give the criminals a good chance to do their dirty work and get away with it.
