To the Editor:

Thank you candidates for your time, effort and expense. The variety of ideas and viewpoints expressed allow voters real opportunity for true change. We need a city government that works for all Mitchell citizens, not just for elected officials and their friends.

The city manager election showed the need for significant political change in Mitchell. A huge majority of elected officials pushed the city manager concept. The political "Old Guard's" lock-step support was so well controlled that talking points were parroted word for word by multiple elected officials. Its defeat showed big time citizen distrust.

That election followed three ordinances referred to a vote and overturned, one completed petition disqualified due to technical error, one ordinance referred, election pending. First and Foster zoning, disapproval letters from property owners and Planning Commission twice over-ruled by Council, no Finding of facts ever published. This is past tone deaf; it's rampant cronyism and steadfast pursuit of personal agendas.

I believe Ken Tracy is an excellent alderman and he could be a good mayor. I can't vote for him because he looks like the "Old Guard's" favorite candidate. We need major political change. City Council leadership ran unopposed, so change is unlikely from there. My vote will go to an "outsider." With Toomey taking most of the "Old Guard's" flak, I inquired about his vote against the $1.5 million water pipe bond issue. Please call him, because his reasons were researched and logical.

I want bad ordinances and unnecessary spending vetoed instead of needing reversal by public vote, officials hearing citizen needs and wants instead of hiring out-of-town experts, elected officials to view Mitchell's citizens as the folks that hired them rather than as pockets to be picked to benefit themselves or their friends. Mitchell politics need big time change.

Please vote for change.
