To the Editor:
I want to be like my hero because he is kind, gracious, patient, forgiving, merciful, compassionate and very courageous. He is also humble. He is the Lord Jesus Christ. He is perfect.
Over 2,000 years ago, the Lord was born as a man on the Earth. He was God, too. Thank goodness for Him. Since He was born, He's changed the lives of millions of people. Because of Him, we have salvation and the possibility of eternal life. I know He wasn't born on Dec. 25, but I would like to say Happy Birthday Lord Jesus, anyway.
Our Lord gave up the glory of Heaven, where angels worshipped Him, and humbled Himself to become a man. After a mere 33 years on Earth, He died at the hands of men. However, this happened only because He allowed it. He laid His life down. He had the power to walk away from the cross, but because of His great love for us and love for the Father, He walked with great courage toward a terrible death.
Can you imagine? Being God, he had foreknowledge of everything that was going to happen to Him. Yet, he walked steadfastly toward His destiny. Talk about courage. And one of the most beautiful reasons I love my hero, is because when He was dying on the cross, He asked His Father to forgive them, for they knew not what they were doing. That's the true personality of Jesus -- to think of others more than Himself.
