To the Editor:
I'm confused when our elected officials say South Dakota has the third-highest tech school tuition in the nation. If so, who has been watching over this situation? Or is this another lack of government keeping things right, such as the terrible tragedies these past years.
What about enrollment numbers? All reports I've seen in the past years to include this year, enrollments are up, so we must not be losing students to other states. South Dakota already has state-sponsored scholarship programs. Is the program is not paying the tuition and wasting more on "pet projects?" We know cover ups are very possible.
If we need taxes again, why pick on a small percent of our citizens? These are good, honest people; stop bullying them and making them out to be a sore spot in our society. We know the sore spots and they do their things (or lack of) in the capitol, they single out small groups trying to get more. Who's next? Farmers? Shopkeepers? Perfume users?
When education needs money, it is up to the state to provided it, not a few citizens. If passed, this money would end up like the lottery money - wasted and not go where promised. Our state elected servants would pass any tax increase that they personally wouldn't have to pay on. They should check on the waste in government and forget new taxes. IM 25 is not for the values South Dakotans cherish.
