To the Editor:

The books of the New Testament didn't show up until about 70 years after those events allegedly took place. Those books of the account of Jesus no longer even exist. What we have now is translations through multiple languages. In 1607, King James of England ordered men to rewrite the Bible to please him. Upon its completion in 1609, it was given to Sir Francis Bacon. He took another year of rewriting it before presenting it to the king. This king was named James.

Christians believe the Bible is the inspired and inerrant word of God. They think it gives them authority when they quote it. How can it be the ultimate truth when "version" is part of its title?

According to the gospels, Mary and Joseph had to travel to Bethlehem because of a census. There was a census around the time Jesus was born, but it was for Roman citizens only. Mary and Joseph were Jews. They wouldn't have had to travel.

Jesus was tried in a court of law with what Roman law would call political agitation. If the gospels are to be believed, He was guilty. Crucifixion would have been a standard sentence, for it was considered a treasonous crime.

Most convicts who were crucified weren't beaten. The point was to prolong suffering. Many have hung on crosses for five to seven days before dying. That Jesus died so quickly meant the Romans found this crime serious. They didn't want this crime to continue from the cross.

The events describing the miracles and crucifixion in the New Testament cannot be verified. Jesus was never mentioned by any reputable historian from that time. The description of the sun going dark and earthquakes upon Jesus' death would have been noticed by large numbers of people and recorded.

Bodies hanging on crosses were billboards advertising Rome's power. They were placed near well-traveled roads. The corpses would hang there until flies carried away all the flesh and the bones were bleached by the sun. There couldn't have been a resurrection. Jesus wouldn't have been let down off the cross.
