Letter: James River water management causing more problems than a fish kill

During last winter (21-22) they should have let a lot more water go down the river all winter long. It might have prevented the flooding.

To the Editor:

I am writing in reference to the dead fish at the Third Street Dam in Huron.

The article stated that the fish likely died from the lack of oxygen. Well, why is that? Could it be that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are holding the water back at Jamestown and pipestem dams in North Dakota? They did that last year, then turned the water loose and flooded thousands of acres or planted acres along the James River. It did not look as though it was going to flood, then here comes the water.

With all the snow we have now, they will likely make the same mistake again.

My farm lost 200 acres of planted soybeans. If the water level had been 6 to 8 inches lower, I would not have lost the crop. That was not the only time that has happened because of mismanagement of the water flow.
