Theodore Meier

Theodore Meier, 92, of White Lake, SD, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 9, 2020 at Aurora-Brule Nursing Home in White Lake. A private family graveside service will be held, due to COVID, in White Lake Cemetery. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Theodore (Ted) F. Meier was born on March 11, 1928 to Fred F. and Maude (Mauer) Meier. He was educated in the Aurora County School System. He served in the US Army from 1951 to 1953 during which time he earned his GED. On June 16, 1951, he married Florence Tiede of Parkston, SD. This union was blessed with four children, eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
He farmed his entire life in the White Lake area, retiring in 1986. His favorite pastime was playing cards. Ted was an active member of his community, having served on the Willow Lake School Board, Farmers Coop Elevator Board, three terms as Mayor of White Lake, Commander of American Legion Post #96, and held numerous offices at Trinity Lutheran Church in White Lake, where he was a member. He also sold corn for the Pfister Association, premix feed for the Kalo Company and was a dealer for Amway and Shaklee products. In 1997, he built the HI N Dri Campground in Oacoma, which they operated for 7 years.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Florence; his four children: Daniel (Karen) Meier of White Lake, SD; Janet (Gary) Huber of Thornton, CO; Kay (Ronald) Sommers of Fishersville, VA and Todd (Barb) Meier of Kennebec, SD; Eight grandchildren: Brenda (Kent) Melcher of Hanover, MN; Scott (Kim) Meier of White Lake, SD; Dustin (Michelle) Meier of Bryant, SD; Jenny (Robert) Romero of Denver, CO; Melissa (David) Sixta of Highlands Ranch, CO, Kyle (Mallory) Meier of Pierre, SD; Megan (Toby) Hullinger of Mitchell, SD; Kevin Meier (Angela) of Sturgis, SD and twelve great grandchildren: Jasper, Skylar, Hannah, Madison, Creedence and Lukas Meier; Layla and Gavin Sixta; Holder and Hallie Hullinger; and Jace and Zoe Romero; one brother, Richard (Glayn) Meier of White Lake, SD and his sister-in-law, Arlene Hanten of Mitchell, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred F. and Maude Meier, his brothers, Ralph, Frederick and William Meier, and sisters, Florence Tingle and Loretta Glissendorf.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the White Lake Cemetery Association or the White Lake Senior Citizens Center.
