Ruby Batterman

Ruby Irene (Tesky) Batterman was born to Henry Tesky and Emma Weisser on the 13th of March 1931. She was christened on the 10th of May of that same year in the New Salem Reformed Church of rural Tripp. After the closing of the Tripp Nursing Home in early 2018, Ruby moved to the David Dorset Health Community, Spearfish, SD where she passed away on November 12, 2020 at the age of 89. Private burial took place at Grace Hill Cemetery, Tripp, SD. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
She married William “Bill” Batterman in Scotland, Bon Homme County, South Dakota on the 14th of June 1951. To this union were born Dennis of Imperial, Nebraska and Robert “Bob” of Hill City, South Dakota. Ruby was not a stay at home mom. From early on she worked outside the home to help make ends meet. She started her careers, before she was married, in 1946 at a small café in Elk Point, SD called Hohn’s Café. In 1959 she worked for Alfred Frey’s station for 50¢ an hour. Then she went to work at Weber’s Grocery as a clerk, M-Tron Industries, Buehner Hardware followed by 22 years at the Good Samaritan Center of Tripp. On the side she worked for the Green Thumb program, as well as cleaned houses for the “little old ladies” and took them around town to their appointments including medical appointments in nearby communities.
She is survived by her two sons; Dennis of Imperial, NE; and Bob (Vanessa Row) from Hill City with his daughter Jillian (Mike) Rasmussen and her two sons, Kacen Clark and Reed Clark of Rapid City; brother Alvin Tesky of Newberg, OR; sister-in-law Mrs. Ervin (Joyce) Tesky of Newberg, OR; Mrs. Helmuth (Metha) Batterman of Parkston; brother-in-law Norman (Vi) Batterman of Parkston SD. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two infant siblings, Erna and Emil; brothers, Ervin and Lester along with her sisters Leona Koth Hix, Agnes Kriz and Marcella “Sally” Tesky.
