Rose Vander Heiden


Rose Vander Heiden, age 94, of Mitchell, SD died Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Firesteel Healthcare Community under hospice care. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday, April 30, 2021 at Resurrection Lutheran Church with burial at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, April 29, 2021 at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Full obituary to follow.

Rose (Wilson) Vander Heiden, daughter of John and Ella (Johnson) Wilson, was born July 26, 1926 in Stickney, SD. She grew up on a farm south of Stickney and attended country school. After her schooling, Rose helped on the family farm.

Rose was united in marriage with Tice Vander Heiden on July 26, 1943 in Butte, NE. The couple lived in the Stickney area, then Mitchell. They moved to Arizona for three years before returning to Mitchell. While in Mitchell, Rose worked at Randall Foods, Prairie Market, Gibson’s and Wayne and Mary’s Health Food Store. Rose then established and owned her own business called Rose’s Nutrition Nook. Rose was known as a very talented seamstress in Mitchell for over 30 years.

She was a charter member of Resurrection Lutheran Church. Rose enjoyed playing cards, having friends over and sewing with family and friends.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children: Phyllis (Wayne) Krell, Rapid City SD, Myron Vander Heiden, Mitchell, SD, Ronald (Margaret) Vander Heiden, Mitchell, SD, Rodney (Paula) Vander Heiden, Mitchell, SD; her daughter-in-law, Diane Vander Heiden, Mitchell, SD; eleven grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tice Vander Heiden on 3/9/91; a son, Dwayne Vander Heiden; a daughter, Joan Schapler; four sisters, Mildred Klein Mulder, Violet Schryvers Gerlach, Evelyn Schryvers, and Florence Wilson in infancy; and a brother, Harvey Wilson.

Masks are strongly suggested for the funeral at Resurrection Lutheran Church.
