Richard “Rich” Kayser

Richard “Rich” Kayser, age 78, of Mitchell, SD died Monday, October 12, 2020 under hospice care at his residence surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, October 16, 2020 at Will Funeral Chapel with burial at St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Cemetery in Alexandria, SD. Visitation will be from 12 noon to service time at Will Funeral Chapel.

Richard Kayser, son of Frank and Della (Foster) Kayser, was born October 15, 1942 in Mitchell, SD. He grew up on the family farm west of Alexandria and attended country school. Rich graduated from Alexandria High School and joined the SD National Guard.

Rich was united in marriage with Judy Heinert on July 6, 1963 in Alexandria, SD. The couple moved onto the family farm in 1969 where he raised his family and continued to farm until 1974.

The couple later moved into Alexandria where Rich was employed with the city. He retired in the early 2000’s.

He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell. Rich enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and was an avid gardener. He truly loved spending time with his family and sharing his love of storytelling. His favorite hobby was building wooden toys. He attended craft fairs to sell his items but many of his treasures were built for his grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Judy Kayser, Mitchell, SD; his children, Keri (Will) Hubers, Baltic, SD, Sheri (Rich) Schneider, Granite Falls, MN, Kathy (Jeff) Fiegen, Dell Rapids, SD, Lee (Joan) Kayser, Mitchell, SD, Jeremy (Jolene) Kayser, Alexandria, SD; 17 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two sisters, Harriet Haines, Green Bay, WI and Shelli Kayser, Sioux Falls, SD.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nicki Bunkers; a granddaughter, Crystal Schneider; his parents; two sisters, Sr. Ritamary Kayser and Gladys Moller; a brother, Gene Kayser and a son-in-law, Jim Bunkers.
