Rosezella Cox

Rosezella Bernice Cox, 96, passed away on Saturday, September 24, at Touchmark at All Saints in Sioux Falls, SD. She left this earth with the same grace and dignity that she walked it, surrounded by loving family members.

Celebration of Life services for Rosy will be held at a later date.

Rosy was born on July 15, 1926 in Denver Township, Kingsbury County, SD. She was the only child of Hans and Mabel (Dagmar) Hanson. She attended grade school in a one-room country school house and graduated from Arlington High School in 1944. She then attended Mitchell Business College, graduating in 1946. Her first employment was as a secretary at the Rozum Motor Company.

On June 12, 1948, she married Richard Cox. Four children followed over the next 13 years. In 1961, she began her 30-year career at the Mitchell regional office for the South Dakota Department of Transportation. She held administrative positions there for many years, retiring as office manager. She enjoyed her Wednesday night bowling league and the lifelong friendships that she developed during these years. Rosy had particularly fond memories of the annual trips to bowling tournaments.

Upon retirement, Rosy was a regular volunteer at the Friends of the Middle Border Museum and the Carnegie Resource Center in Mitchell. She enjoyed the friendships with her fellow volunteers as well as the interactions with the visitors.

In 2017, Rosy moved to Touchmark at All Saints in Sioux Falls, SD where she could be closer to her youngest daughter, Kay and her family. Here Rosy enjoyed bridge, bingo, dining with her fellow residents and the occasional trip to the casino. Her love for Touchmark was mutual. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the Touchmark staff for their loving care and many acts of kindness during her last days.

Rosy’s legacy is the extended family that she has loved, nurtured, enriched and inspired. She set an example of sacrifice, diligence, community service and devotion to family that will continue to motivate those who were fortunate to know her.

Rosy was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Richard. She is survived by her four children, Kathy (Neil) Korth of Bend, OR, Ken (Valerie) Cox of Prescott, AZ, Karen (Marv) Jones of Monument, CO and Kay (Dick) Husman of Sioux Falls, SD; 9 grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. The family asks that any donations in Rosy’s honor be made to the Carnegie Resource, 119 West Third Avenue, Mitchell, SD 57301 or Touchmark at All Saints, 111 W 17th St., Sioux Falls, SD 57104.
