Gregory (Pete) Gayle Petersen passed away on March 28th, 2023, after a hard-fought 2 ½ year battle with cancer. Greg was born on March 29, 1949 in Burke, South Dakota, to Orris and Ruth (Evans) Petersen. He was a proud Bulldog of Burke High School (’67) and even prouder Jackrabbit of South Dakota State University (’71). Greg married Katherine (Rankin) of Durham, North Carolina, on September 20, 1980, and started farming with his dad shortly after. While farming was the work, Greg’s proudest achievement in life was being “dad” to James and Courtney, and “grandpa” to Hattie, Nora, and Walter. He will be missed and remembered by many for his big heart, his pranks, his quick wit, his love of the Jackrabbits, his amazing piano talent, his clutch putter when money was on the line, his thrill for “wagering” on anything, especially cards, and his enthusiasm for fireworks on the 4th of July.

Greg is survived by wife Kathy, son James of Vancouver, WA, daughter Courtney (Mike) of Mount Vernon, SD, and his beloved grandchildren Hattie, Nora, and Walter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orris and Ruth Petersen.
