Gladys K. Schmidt

Gladys K. Schmidt, age 92 of Tripp, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2022 at Oakview Terrace in Freeman, South Dakota.

A private graveside service will be held at Grace Hill Cemetery in Tripp.

Gladys was born Saturday, June 21, 1930 to Jacob and Emelia (Heinrich) Dewald on their Bon Homme County family farm. She attended grade school in rural Tripp. Gladys was confirmed April 2, 1944 at Friedens Reformed Church, Tripp.

She was united in marriage to Harold Alvin Schmidt, March 16, 1950 at Friedens Reformed Church. They raised their three sons on the farm east of Tripp. After moving to town in 1981, Gladys worked for over 20 years at Weber’s Grocery & Hardware in Tripp.

Gladys enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting, bowling and gardening. She was a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church. She loved taking the grandchildren to the Black Hills and Gillette, Wyoming.

Gladys is survived by two sons, Robert (Bernita) Schmidt of Tripp and Charles (Barb) Schmidt of Washington State; daughter-in-law, Joann Schmidt of Freeman; grandchildren, Eric Schmidt, Brent Schmidt, Amanda Johnson, Brandon Schmidt, Gina Hieb, Stacy Schmidt, Michael Schmidt, Kyle Schmidt and Travis Schmidt along with 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold in 1998; son, Donnie Schmidt in 2008; grandson, Alex Schmidt in 2009; five sisters, Gertie Hieb, Phyllis Brosz, Eunice Dewald, Alice Dewald and Olivia Vetter and brother, Ray Dewald.
