Tom was born on October 10, 1954 in Mitchell, South Dakota to Leslie Thomsen and Arline (Jorgensen). He attended University of South Dakota for political science. Family and acquaintances would find him happiest in the kitchen and he often would create legendary meals for any lucky to know him.
