Norma Lucille Lucas
Norma Lucille Lucas, 92, of Platte, SD passed away Sunday, June 7, 2020 at Platte Care Center Avera. A private family Funeral Mass and Committal Service will be held. Mount Funeral Home of Platte is assisting with arrangements.
Norma Lucille (Mitchell) Lucas was born on November 28, 1927 to Charles James and Mary Magdelene (Schmidt) Mitchell on the family farm in Bijou Hills, SD. She attended Kendall Country School and graduated from Platte High School in 1945. Norma was united in marriage to Lauren Lucas on February 25, 1948 in Platte, SD. She waitressed at local cafes and was a teacher’s aide at Platte Colony and LaRoche Country School. She and Lauren remained on the farm until moving into Platte in 1991.
Norma was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and Altar Society. She enjoyed playing cards, being outside in her garden and taking trips to the casinos.
Grateful for having shared in Norma’s life: her husband of over 72 years, Lauren Lucas of Platte, SD; four children and nine grandchildren: daughter, Barbara Poe of Sioux Falls, SD – Terry Poe, Tina (Dwaine) Wagner and Tim Poe; son, Larry (Deb) Lucas of Pickstown, SD – Lindsey Lucas, Whitney (Ryan) Lucas Molitor, Jenna Lucas and Andera (Daniel) Herrera; daughter, Janet (Ray) Tegethoff of Platte, SD – Jarod (Tessa) Tegethoff and Erica Moreland; and son, Mark Lucas of Omaha, NE; 19 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; along with many nieces and nephews.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary Mitchell; a brother, Ralph Mitchell; four sisters: Goldie Keyser, Beulah Dertien, Grace Thomas and Viola Anderson; and a son-in-law, Jerry Poe.
