Lucille Mohnen
Lucille LaVonne Mohnen, 85, of White Lake, SD, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Monday, December 14 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in White Lake. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in White Lake. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Lucille was born January 25, 1935 to Leo and Nellie (Armfield) Fuerst of Geddes, SD. She attended first grade in Armour, SD and then moved to Mitchell in 1942 and attended the rest of her school years there.
On January 21, 1952 she married Wallace Mohnen of White Lake, SD. They farmed and raised livestock on the homestead family farm south of White Lake until 1968 and nine children were born. The family then moved to the Kieffer homestead where Wallace’s mother was raised. Here there were three more children born. Wallace and Lucille enjoyed farming and raising their twelve children. In March of 2020 they moved to town, where she lived until the time of her passing.
Lucille was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Altar Society, American Legion Auxiliary, Elk’s Lodge, and Moose Lodge. She enjoyed being a member of the Red Hats Society social club. Her large family kept her busy. Lucille was always found in her kitchen cooking, baking, and canning the many vegetables grown in her garden. She was happiest on the go attending the many events for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Lucille also loved camping, going to the State Fair, and decorating her home for every occasion. She will always be remembered for her lively spirit and her love of music and dancing.
Grateful for having shared in Lucille’s life are her twelve children: Greg (Linda) Mohnen, Bend, OR; Christy (Phil) Schaefer, Sioux Falls, SD; Steve (Kathy) Mohnen, White Lake, SD; Renee (Rick) Lukkes, Waseca, MN; Carol Mohnen, Denver, CO; Dale Mohnen, White Lake, SD; Linda (Lenny) Kristensen, White Lake, SD; Mary (Ernie) LaFleur, Jefferson, SD; Robert (Shanna) Mohnen, White Lake, SD; Michelle (Joe) Koch, Stickney, SD; and Scott (Tonya) Mohnen, Crooks, SD; 27 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wallace for over 68 years; daughter, Sandra; two infant sons, Michael and Duane; daughter-in-law, Brenda Mohnen; her parents; sister, Maxine, and a great-grandson.
