Joseph Weiss, 78, of Mitchell, formerly of Plankinton, SD, died Friday, April 30, 2021, at Avera Brady Health and Rehab in Mitchell. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 4, at Bittner Funeral Chapel. Burial was in Mizpah Cemetery in Plankinton. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Joseph Victor Weiss was born on February 2, 1943 to Joseph and Anna (Erlacher) Weiss on the family farm near Ethan. He attended the Dimock Catholic School through the 8th grade after which he farmed and served in the National Guard for six years.
On January 6, 1966 Joseph married Audrey Ione Hufford. To this union four children were born. In 1976, the family relocated to a dairy farm near Plankinton. Audrey preceded him in death in 1994. Joseph continued to live and work on his dairy farm until 2006 when he met Barbara Eubank, and together they moved to Sioux Falls.
After several years, Joseph returned to Plankinton. In his retirement he enjoyed working on his motorcycle, raising chickens and ducks, and “tearing around the mile”. In 2016 Joseph suffered a stroke and moved to Avera Brady Health and Rehab. He resided there until his death on April 30, 2021.
He is survived by his children, Becky (Joe) Bosworth of White Lake, Steve (Carol) Weiss of Mitchell, Sherry (Bob) Rassmussen of Sioux City, IA, and Kris Weiss of Mt. Vernon; nine grandchildren; and brothers, Leroy of Volga, SD and Frankie of Sioux Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Anna Weiss; wife, Audrey; second partner in life, Barbara; and three brothers, Gerald, Jerome, and Duane in infancy.
