Johanna was born in Parkston, SD on June 23, 1935 to Joe and Rose Weber. She was raised on the family farm near Dimock, SD. She attended country school near Dimock. In 1956 she married Garland Weiss before he entered the service. A few years after their marriage the couple moved to Mitchell. After raising her children Johanna worked at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital for over 26 years. She was an active member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Johanna’s family is unique in that they all get along and enjoy being together. Johanna adored and treasured her family and loved when all the children and grandchildren were around, teasing each other. Anyone could see the happiness in Johanna’s face and eyes when she was around her family. She loved to travel, going to see her sisters, taking bus trips with Judy, going to Missouri to see her family and trips to Custer with the entire family sharing a rustic cabin. Many memories were made with the family playing cards or dominoes. Johanna would hope her cheating would go unnoticed by her family but she always got caught and had the slyest look on her face as she played the correct card or domino. Johanna was a classy woman who loved having her hair styled and looking nice. She also loved to shop.
