Joanne was born November 1, 1942 to Roman and Lucille (Warner) Haiar in Farmer. Her mother died early in her life so her step-mother, Lorraine, became an active part of her life. The couple made their home in Parkston where Joanne worked for a short time as a beautician at the Beauty Salon. Along with Jerome, they owned and operated Weiss Repair for many years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society. She was a gifted seamstress who very much enjoyed quilting. She was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed playing cards with June and Tenny Kollman but most of all enjoyed attending all of her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities.

Grateful for having shared her life are her 4 children: Judy (Frank) Stands of Parkston; Jan (Dale) Hayen of Mitchell; Jo (Wayne) Juhnke of Parkston and James Weiss of Parkston; 8 grandchildren: Eric and Matt Maeschen; Sierra Stands; Amanda, Kristin, and Josh Hayen; and Tyler and Taya Juhnke; 19 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers: Gene (Jo Elaine) Haiar of Mitchell; Ronald “Butch” (Mary) Haiar of Sanger, CA; and Kenny (Kelly) Haiar of Sioux Falls; a sister-in-law, Iva Haiar of Janesville, WI; and a special son, Ron (Tammy) Maeschen of Parkston.
