Janice G. Thielsen

Janice G. Thielsen, 85, Flandreau, passed away of complications due to COVID-19 on Wednesday, November 4, 2020. Janice was born west of Flandreau on March 31, 1935 to Cy and Blanch (Thomas) Whaley. After high school, Janice married her sweetheart, George Thielsen, on July 3, 1953 while he was on a 3-day pass during the Korean War. Despite her many occupations, Janice’s most cherished role was raising and caring for her family as a stay-at-home mother. Janice was a member of the Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Disabled American Veterans, Daughters of the Nile, and Eastern Star. She was a Deacon in her church and active in the choir. She enjoyed singing, visiting and playing cards with friends, and traveling to Branson, Missouri every year to see the shows.

Janice is survived by husband, George; daughter Sheri (Randy) Schauer; sons David (Joy) and Daniel (Kristy) Thielsen; six grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. Janice was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Vernon, Marion and Kenneth; one sister, Elaine Elhoff; grandson Philip Schauer; granddaughter Amber Schauer; great granddaughter Madison Schauer.

Private services will take place with livestream available beginning 2:00 pm Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at www.skrochfc.com. Public visitation without family is from 5:00 - 7:00 pm on Tuesday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau.
