James Hoffman

James “Red” Hoffman, 87, of Plankinton, SD passed away Saturday, December 26, 2020 at Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral Mass is 10:30 A.M. Thursday, December 31, 2020 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Plankinton. A Committal Service with Military Honors will follow at Mizpah Catholic Cemetery, Plankinton. Visitation will be held at the church from 6:00 – 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 30, 2020 with a 7:00 P.M. Wake Service. Mount Funeral Home of Plankinton is assisting with arrangements.

James Hoffman was born on April 7, 1933 to Martin and Caroline (Krell) Hoffman in Plankinton, SD. He graduated from Plankinton High School, served his country in the US Army and went on to become a Lineman for Tri-County Electric. On August 22, 1955 James was united in marriage to Ida Atkinson at St. John’s Catholic Church in Plankinton.

Red was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, loved hunting, fishing and boating – especially at Twin Lakes.

Grateful for having shared in Red’s life: his wife of over 65 years, Ida Hoffman of Plankinton, SD; his son, Jerry Hoffman of Plankinton, SD; a daughter-in-law, Tammy Hoffman of Mesa, AZ; six grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren: Tori (Travis) Grode – Isabelle and Owen; Joe (Crystal) Hoffman – Vanessa, Ethan, Dreyton and Amelia; Beth (Phil) Victor – Kenzie, Emersyn, Tony and Ross; Brandi (Marcus) Bermea – Jace, Griffin and Braelyn; David Hoffman; Josie Hoffman; a brother, Robert (Kris) Hoffman of Watertown, SD; a sister, Janet Vlasman of Madison, SD; two sisters-in-law: Lenora Hoffman of Plankinton, SD and Betty Hoffman of Mitchell, SD; a special friend, Lee Hammerbeck; along with many nieces and nephews.

Red was preceded in death by his son, Jim Hoffman; a daughter-in-law, Gail Hoffman; his parents, Martin and Caroline Hoffman; three brothers: Ozzie, Alvin and Dale Hoffman; and a brother-in-law, Duane Vlasman.
