Glennys Marlene (Niewenhuis) Feenstra, of Corsica, SD died peacefully at home under Hospice care on December 4, 2020. She was born on June 4, 1933 to John William and Anna (Spoelstra) Niewenhuis in rural Corsica, Douglas County, SD. She attended school at Garden Valley, Corsica Christian Elementary and Corsica High School. On August 25, 1954 Glennys was united in marriage to John H. Feenstra at the New Holland Christian Reformed Church. John and Glennys were lifetime farmers. In 1965, they moved to the Feenstra Family farm northeast of New Holland. They lived and farmed together there until 2007 when they retired and moved to Corsica.
Faith was an important part of Glennys’s life. She was a member of New Holland Christian Reformed Church. Over the years she brought joy to many with her smile and kind spirit. Whether driving the bus for New Holland Christian students (1996-2005) or volunteering and visiting residents at Corsica Assisted Living. Glennys brought joy wherever she went. If you ever dropped by for lunch on the farm or enjoyed a cup of coffee while sitting in the sunshine with her on her deck, then you know that reminiscing and spending time with family and friends were among her favorite things. Glennys also enjoyed bird watching, playing the piano, knitting, reading and traveling.
Glennys’s final three weeks on earth were marked by a cancer diagnosis and a stroke. What her family will remember and cherish most was the opportunity many had to visit and say good-bye to her in her home. This was final a time to reminisce and share their favorite memories with Glennys. A final Thanksgiving meal shared with her children and her strong faith that allowed her to say “it’s all in God’s hands” despite her cancer diagnosis and rapidly declining health. Glennys left her earthy home for her heavenly home at the age of 87.
Grateful for having shared in Glennys’s life: her husband of 60 years, John Feenstra (deceased 2015); her 5 children: Marjolyn (Jerry) Baan Hofman of Corsica, SD, Delwin (Linda) Feenstra of Harrison, SD, Maxine (Tim) Haagsma of Grand Rapids, MI, Marcella (Brian) Nies of Herreid, SD, Darcy Feenstra and Renee Dilts of Yankton, SD; 18 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; a brother, George Niewenhiuis of Corsica, SD; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Niewenhuis of New Holland, SD; brothers and sisters-in-law: Gordon (Betty) Feenstra, Delia (Keith) Bordewyk, Evelyn (Howard) Munneke, Vonnie Van Horssen and Eunice (James) Stegner.
