Glen Shoemaker

Glen Robert Shoemaker, of Mitchell, SD was born on January 22, 1960 in Mitchell, SD to Earl (Bud) Shoemaker and Dottie (Shoemaker) Iverson. This is where he grew up and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1979. He found rest in the arms of Jesus on September 9th, 2020 at the age of 60. Glen was raised in Holy Family Catholic Church.
Glen held many positions throughout his lifetime. He was an electrician for Green Electric, a stone setter for Shafer Memorials, a Class 1 Firefighter and EMT for the Mitchell Fire Rescue, and he also worked for the Sioux Falls Fire and Rescue. Glen worked hard as a firefighter, and was grateful for the opportunity to help others. He was awarded the Outstanding Officer Award in 1989, by the Civil Defense Rescue Squad.
Later, he started his own business called Glen’s Quality Cleaning. He was known for being meticulous. Numerous people would talk about the caliber of his work, and how he took great care in the service he provided. After a tragedy occurred in Glen’s life and he was wheelchair bound, his life became more about family versus work. He looked forward to spending time with family and participating in celebrations. He also shared funny stories about his cat Boots, who was his constant companion. Riding a motorcycle had become a joy for Glen. He was fortunate to attain a wheelchair accessible motorcycle that he called the Bat Mobile, and people naturally nicknamed him Batman. Glen enjoyed riding as a member of the Wolf Pack.
Grateful for having shared his life are his mother, Dottie Iverson of Mitchell, SD; siblings, Ann Trent of La Crosse, WI, Tom Shoemaker of Mitchell, SD, Sid (Linda) Shoemaker of Sioux City, IA, Gail Urso of Brookfield, CT, Mary (Bob) Kobernusz of Sioux Falls, SD, Laura (Reggie) Hair of Canonsburg, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews. We would also like to acknowledge his caregiver and close friends Pam Catalano, Jerry Metcalf, and Laray Rayment.
Glen was preceded in death by his father, Earl (Bud) Shoemaker and stepfather, Merv Iverson.
Funeral services are pending until family members can congregate. Acknowledgements can be sent to Dottie Iverson, c/o Sid Shoemaker, 6100 Pine View Drive, Sioux City, IA, 51106.
