Fred D. Brink passed away April 10, 2019 at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. His memorial service will be Monday, July 8, 2019 at 3:00 pm at Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell, South Dakota.

Fred Douglas Brink was born March 19, 1945 in Redfield, South Dakota, to Rudolph and Helen (Albrecht) Brink. He grew up on a farm east of Redfield, attended Brink Country School through grade six, and completed his education in Redfield Public Schools, graduating in 1963. After graduation, he served in the South Dakota National Guard.

Fred’s entire life was agriculture focused. For many years he worked for Randy Musick in Mitchell, traveling the country as a horse buyer. In the 1980s he purchased a farm outside Mt. Vernon and became self-employed as a livestock buyer. He took pride in maintaining and improving the appearance of his farm. Through the assistance of Shannon Larson, he was able to greatly expand his farming operation.

Throughout his life, Fred loved animals, particularly chickens and horses. He was a member of the state 4-H poultry team that represented the state of South Dakota at the National 4-H Poultry Contest. At the time of his death, he was eagerly anticipating the arrival of the spring baby chicks.

Going to auctions brought him joy. He relished the social interaction as well as occasionally finding value in whatever was being sold. Fred married Eva Tischler on January 4, 1989. She died on June 26, 2014.

Fred is survived by his brother, Michel (Betty) Brink of Redfield and sister, Carolyn Brink of Denver, Colorado, stepdaughter Cindy (Raymond) Dangel of Viborg and step-grandchildren, Chad (Kaitlyn) Dangel of Worthing and Brittany Dangel of Viborg. He is also survived by Shannon (Shannon) Larson of Mt. Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother-in-law, and infant son.

Burial of cremains will be in the family plot at Green Lawn Cemetery in Redfield on Tuesday July 9, 2019 at 10:00 AM.
