Francis J. Pazour

Funeral services for Francis J. Pazour, 91, of Pukwana, SD will be 10:30 am Friday, September 10, 2021 at St. James Catholic Church in Chamberlain with burial in the St. Procopius Catholic Cemetery (Red Lake) at rural Pukwana, SD. Visitation will begin Thursday at 5:00 pm in St. James Community Center with a scripture/rosary service at 7:00 pm in the church.

Francis John Pazour was born on May 7, 1930 on the family homestead south of Pukwana SD to James “Winnie” and Clara (Soulek) Pazour. When Francis was 4 years old, his mother passed away after the birth of his baby brother Joseph at which time his Aunt Mayme Pazour helped his father raise the young family. He attended Pazour Country School through the 8th grade. At the age of 20 Francis was drafted into the U.S. Army on Dec 12, 1950. He completed his basic training at Fort Carson, Colorado and was then based at Yuma Arizona until his discharge on Dec. 12, 1952 from Camp Roberts California. His father passed away while he was in the service. After his discharge he returned to the family homestead to farm with his brothers. On Sept 10, 1955 Francis was united in marriage to Joanne Gross at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Kimball SD. They continued living and operating the place on which he was born. Together they were blessed with 7 children. He was very proud of them and all of their accomplishments. He loved hunting, enjoyed going to all his children’s and grandchildren’s activities, along with playing cards with his family and friends.

In 1964 Francis was selected as the “Outstanding Young Farmer” of this area by the Chamberlain Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the St. James Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Drips American Legion Post #130 of Kimball. He also served on the Richland Township board for 31 years and was actively farming until age 85 (checking fences, cattle etc..). He did so love his family and the farm on which he lived his whole life.

Francis peacefully passed away at age 91 in his home where he was born. Grateful for sharing his life is Joanne, his loving wife of 66 years. His 7 children Steve (Rita) Pazour of Pukwana SD; Nancy (Terry) Schweitzer of Mobridge SD; Donna (Jim) Gullikson of Locust Grove GA; Kathy (Scott) Casselberry of Amery WI; Janette (Robert) Parks of Searcy AR; Lynette (Kenny) Yeaton of Chamberlain SD and MaryJo Rohrbach of Sioux Falls SD; sister in law Marie (Chester) Pazour; 21 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; many nieces & nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents James “Winnie” and Clara, his brother James & his wife Vivian Pazour, his sister Florence & her husband Charles “Chuck” Shank, as well as his brothers Chester & Joseph. Nephews Kenny Pazour & Mike Goepfert & niece Linda (Shank) Hammond.
