Arvid Ted Scott

Piedmont | Arvid Ted Scott (Scotty) passed away June 24, 2020 at the Rapid City Hospice House.

Arvid was born on September 20, 1928 in Brookings, SD to Ted and Doris Scott. He graduated from White Lake High School and went to college at Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD and at SDSU in Brookings, SD.

In 1950, he married Mildred Meade from Plankinton and was married for 27 years until her death in 1977. They had two children: Lori Ann Scott of Fountain Hills, AZ and Timothy Ted Scott of Piedmont, SD.

Through high school and college, Arvid enjoyed playing basketball as well as trumpet in a Swing Band. He worked on the family farm, then went on to manage the White Lake Creamery until his promotion to Diamond Dairies in Portland, OR. He later moved to Sioux Falls to oversee Foremost Dairies and purchased the Westwick Motel in the late 70’s. Later he moved to Rapid City to expand his motel business with the acquisition of the Avanti and Castle Inn and added his son as a partner. In 1996, they sold the Avanti and Castle Inn to begin a new venture with the start of the Deerview Campground. In 2003 they expanded once again with the purchased of the Elk Creek Resort and Petrified Forest property. He would winter in Arizona with his daughter Lori. In the summer you could find him running the Petrified Forest and spending endless hours on the mower. He knew all about rocks, fossils, and the geological history of the Petrified Forest. He loved the land and would take the time to talk with each and every customer. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed!

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Doris Scott; his brother, Roger Scott; his sister, Doris Ann Scott; and his wives, Mildred and Diane Scott. He is survived by his sister, Phyllis Sorensen (White Lake, SD); his daughter, Lori Scott (Fountain Springs, AZ); his son, Tim Scott (Piedmont, SD); and grandchildren, Kelsey Scott (Seattle, WA) and Brady Scott (Piedmont, SD).

Cards and memorials can be sent to: Tim and Lori Scott, 8220 Elk Creek Rd., Piedmont, SD 57769.
