Arthur “Fuzz” Smith

Arthur F. “Fuzz” Smith, age 92, of Mitchell, SD passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at Diamond Care Center in Bridgewater, SD. A graveside service will be at 10:00 AM Monday, October 19, 2020 at Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell. The service is open to the public and everyone attending will meet at the cemetery.

Fuzz Smith was born on June 29, 1928 to Arthur F. Smith and Louise (Clemens) Smith at Saint Joseph Hospital in Mitchell, SD. His parents lived in Mitchell for many years. His father was in banking and his mother was interested in taking care of her family. He had one sister, Peggy Smith. Fuzz attended Mitchell Senior High, Shattuck Military School, Charles City, Iowa and the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, SD.

He lived in Mitchell his entire life and was an avid sports fan, never missing a game. Baseball, football, or basketball, supporting the Mitchell Kernels and Dakota Wesleyan Tigers and he was a regular customer at the Scoreboard in Mitchell. Fuzz was a huge Green Bay Packers fan and never missed watching a game. He loved his church, his sports teams and America. Fuzz was a very generous and faithful man.

He was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Mitchell, serving on the board, usher, Chalice server, and served on the vestry.

Fuzz served his country in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 serving during the Korean Conflict.

Fuzz married Phyllis Kenton on June 21st 1967. They lived in Mitchell for many years. He worked in banking, real estate and loans. Phyllis was the manager of the VFW.

He is survived by his sister, Peggy Smith of Pinetop, AZ, in-laws, Judy Kenton, Mitchell, SD, and James and Carol Kenton, Ames, IA.

Fuzz was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and his dogs, Tiger, Charlie and Kelley; he loved them all.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Diamond Care Center in Bridgewater, SD.

Funeral services under the direction of Will Funeral Chapel.
