Harvey Baldwin

Harvey N. Baldwin age 89, of Mitchell died Monday, March 5, 2018 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the Will Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Friday at the Will Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Hills of Rest Memorial Park in Sioux Falls at a later date. Harvey was born February 15, 1929 to Jess and Kathryn (Kopfman) Baldwin south of Alexandria, SD on a farm during a blizzard and left this earth at the start of the blizzard on Monday. He married Marlene Hanssen and to this union four children were born Joy, Judy, Jane and Jeff, after Marlene's death he married Deanna (Newcomer) and Jill was born.

Harvey served in the US Navy, returned home and farmed for 10 years. He began his career as a fireman/EMT (0045) in Mitchell, SD and retired after 33 years. He resided in Sioux Falls for 20 years, and the past 2 years at Crystal Manor in Mitchell where they took excellent care of him. Harvey was passionate about his children and grandchildren as they were his pride and joy. Harvey's favorite saying was "Don't worry be happy". Harvey was proud of his many accomplishments including: being a CPR instructor for 30 years, and being one of the first EMT's (his number was 0045) in the state. He will be remembered for his beautiful gardens and raising tomatoes. He also enjoyed many other projects like wood crafts and handyman work. In his later years he enjoyed feeding ducks and seeing them return year after year. Survived by daughters Judy (Randy) Wells, Minot, ND, Jane (Larry) Sexton, Mitchell, SD, Jill (David) Cremer, Sioux Falls, SD; a son Jeff (Janell) Baldwin, Fond DuLac, WI; grandchildren Chad, Tera, Katie, Jennifer, Stacie, Tyler, Tessa, Abigail and Jordan; 9 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews; brother Homer of Omaha, NE; sisters-n-law Gladys Baldwin and Alberta Baldwin, Mitchell, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives Marlene and Deanna, daughter Joy, brothers Wilber and Kenneth, sisters Helen Blindauer and Lelah Annis.
