He was baptized and made profession of faith in the Harrison Christian Reformed Church where he was a faithful member. He served as an Elder, Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and on the school boards of Dakota Christian and Corsica Christian Grade School. He later transferred his membership to the Corsica Christian Reformed Church.
On August 19, 1949 he married Darlene Vanden Bos at the Platte Christian Reformed Church. They were blessed with four children: LaRoy, Gordon, Carol and Sharon. He farmed his whole life on the farm his grandfather Fred Lefers homesteaded. Farming was his passion and he enjoyed driving tractor, watching the crops grow and milking cows. Throughout his life, he enjoyed listening to classical music and reading, especially WWII history books. Earl and Darlene enjoyed traveling and visiting all 50 states together. He liked to stay busy and enjoyed wood working; crafting many items for his children and grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared in Earl's life: his loving wife of 67 years, Darlene Lefers of Corsica, SD; his four children: LaRoy (Betty) Lefers of Corsica, SD, Gordon (Wyona) Lefers of Corsica, SD, Carol (Gary) Van Zee of Rockledge, FL and Sharon (Mick) Warejcka of Platte, SD; 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two sisters: Ruth (Doc) Jongsma of Corsica, SD and Muriel (Howard) Hooyer of Cutlerville, MI; along with many nieces and nephews.
