Mitchell Black scored 18 runs on 19 hits on Monday as it swept a doubleheader against Huron at Drake Field.
A seven-run first inning paved the way for a 10-1 win in Game 1, followed by Mitchell fending off a late Huron rally to hold on for an 8-7 win in the second game.
In the first game, Mitchell's first four batters of the third inning all reached base, including three via single. With two outs, Mitchell recorded three more hits, highlighted by Hudson Haley's two-RBI double.
Tanner Puetz went 3-for-3 for Mitchell, while Peyton Schroder drove in a pair of runs. Mitchell finished with nine hits as a team. Schroder also earned the win, allowing an unearned run and striking out three in a six-inning start.
Mason Davis took the loss for Huron, giving up eight runs (six earned) in four innings. Huron was held to five hits.
Mitchell jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in Game 2, extending it to 7-2 by the end of the fourth inning. However, Haley scoring on an error in the fifth inning proved to be the difference as Huron scored five runs in the seventh inning before Kaden Contreras forced a lineout to end the game.
Noah Larson picked up the win, giving up five runs (four earned) and striking out six in a six-inning start. Carter Miller and Dylan Soulek both drove in two runs, while Connor Hohn and Haley both had two hits.
Mitchell (4-9-2) hosts Harrisburg for a 4 p.m. doubleheader today at Cadwell Park.
