State basketball roundup: Harrisburg defeats No. 1 Sioux Falls Lincoln in Class AA

RAPID CITY—A 23-point second quarter helped No. 8 Harrisburg edge No. 1 Sioux Falls Lincoln, 41-39, in the opening round of the Class AA boys basketball state tournament on Thursday.

Harrisburg (13-9): No stats were reported for Harrisburg. The Tigers square off with the winner of Brandon Valley vs. Rapid City Stevens at 7:30 p.m. Central today in the semifinals.

Sioux Falls Lincoln (18-3): Nate Brecht led the Patriots with 11 points, while Jared Jaros tossed in 10 points and six boards. Zach Hanson tallied seven points and nine rebounds for the Patriots. SF Lincoln will face the loser of Brandon Valley vs. Rapid City Stevens in the consolation semifinals today at 1:45 p.m. Central.

SIOUX FALLS—No. 1 Tea Area routed No. 8 Dell Rapids in an opening-round game of the Class A boys basketball state tournament on Thursday.

Tea Area (22-1): Noah Freidel poured in 25 points and six rebounds, while Justin Hohn added 19 points and seven boards for the Titans. Colby Fechner tallied nine points and Kaleb Joffer scored eight with nine rebounds. The Titans face the winner of No. 4 Pine Ridge vs. No. 5 Hot Springs today at 6:30 p.m.

Dell Rapids (14-8): Drew Van Regenmorter finished with eight points and eight boards for the Quarriers, while Colin Rentz tallied seven points and five boards in the loss. Dell Rapids takes on the loser of No. 4 Pine Ridge vs. No. 5 Hot Springs today at 12:45 p.m.

SIOUX FALLS—No. 2 Sioux Falls Christian handled No. 7 Madison in the first round of the Class A boys basketball state tournament on Thursday.

Sioux Falls Christian (20-2): Mitchell Goodbary had a monster double-double with 31 points and 12 boards, while Mitchell Oostra tallied nine points and six rebounds for the Chargers. SF Christian will face the winner of No. 3 St. Thomas More vs. No. 6 Lennox in the semifinals today at 8:15 p.m..

Madison (15-8): Doyle Brown and Nic Comes scored 11 points apiece for the Bulldogs, while Brown added five rebounds in the loss. Cody Brown grabbed 10 points with six rebounds. Madison plays the loser of No. 3 St. Thomas More vs. No. 6 Lennox in the consolation semifinals today at 12:45 p.m..

ABERDEEN—No. 8 Viborg-Hurley shocked top-seeded White River on Thursday in the Class B boys basketball state tournament.

Viborg-Hurley (22-2): Brodee Sherman scored a game-high 31 points, while adding five rebounds. Chase Mason scored 11 points in the win. VH plays De Smet in the semifinals at 6 p.m. today.

White River (20-3): Luke Wells and Nick Sayler both scored 12 points, while Teron Sazue added 11. Tyson Iyotte and Jadice Morrison both chipped in 10, while Morrison also dished out five assists. White River plays Jones County at noon today.

ABERDEEN—Three double-figure performances propelled No. 5 De Smet to victory over No. 4 Jones County in the opening round of the Class A boys basketball state tournament Thursday.

De Smet (22-2): Kalen Garry dropped 24 points and eight rebounds for the Bulldogs, while Trevin Holland and Rett Osthus tallied 14 points apiece. Holland added 10 rebounds for a double-double. The Bulldogs take on No. 8 Viborg-Hurley today at 6 p.m. in the semifinals in Sioux Falls.

Jones County (19-3): Austin Olson scored 23 points with 10 rebounds in the loss, while Alec Whitney tallied 12 points and Morgan Feddersen hit 10 points with eight boards. Jones County faces No. 1 White River in the consolation semifinals today in Sioux Falls at noon.

RAPID CITY-- Morgan Hansen's double-double helped lift No. 3 Sioux Falls Lincoln over No. 6 Sioux Falls Washington in the first round of the Class AA girls basketball state tournament on Thursday.

Sioux Falls Lincoln (15-6): Hansen notched 11 points and 14 rebounds for the Patriots, while Brooke Brown added nine points. Sydnaya Dunn and Emma Osmundsun tallied six points apiece in the win. SF Lincoln plays Harrisburg in the semifinals today at 5:45 p.m. Central in Rapid City.

Sioux Falls Washington (13-8): Sydni Schetnan finished with 10 points and eight rebounds in the loss, while Peyton Rymerson scored nine points and Samiya Jami scored seven. The Warriors face Rapid City Stevens in the consolation semifinals today at noon Central in Rapid City.
