PIERRE – South Dakota State Health officials announced Thursday that a worker at the Lane Café in Lane has tested positive for COVID-19.

The case comes along with the first confirmed COVID-19 case in Jerauld County on Thursday. Lane, a community of about 60 people, is located 8 miles east of Wessington Springs and about 40 miles northwest of Mitchell. The Lane Cafe has served as the hub of the community, and also serves as the local post office site.

State officials said the individual reported working April 1 through April 4 while able to transmit the virus to others.

Due to the risk of exposure, customers who visited the café during those dates should monitor for symptoms for 14 days after the date they visited. A CDC screening tool is available online at covid.sd.gov, which can help recommend when to call your medical provider if you develop symptoms.
