Active COVID-19 cases in South Dakota continued on a downward trajectory for the 11th consecutive day, while hospitalizations saw a slight uptick for the second day in a row.
During the last 11 days, active cases have decreased by nearly 1,500, with 2,600 reported by the state Department of Health Tuesday. There were 118 new cases recorded, with 20.8% of 524 new tests returning positive.
After seeing a decline over the weekend, current hospitalizations increased by five to 131 Tuesday. Statewide, 45% of hospital beds are available, with 4.7% occupied by COVID-19 patients. There are 21 people with COVID-19 in the intensive care unit and 17 on ventilators.
South Dakota ranks No. 7 in the United States in COVID-19 vaccinations per capita and is tied for No. 2 in the nation with Alaska in percentage of people fully vaccinated. So far 71,522 people have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 29,967 have been fully inoculated.
The number of people to be completely vaccinated in Davison County surpassed 1,000 Tuesday, with 1,023. The county has administered 2,812 doses thus far, with 1,789 having received at least one shot.
