PIERRE, S.D. — Two Pennington County women and a Jackson County woman, all over the age of 80, have died from COVID-19.

The three deaths bring South Dakota’s total death toll to 81 as of Friday, June 19.

The state added 49 new positive cases to the total number of confirmed cases overall, which now totals 6,158.

Of those positive cases, 801 are active.

The state’s two most populous counties have the most active cases as of Friday.

Minnehaha County has 297 active cases and Pennington County has 149 active cases.

Beadle County, which has a population that’s at least 90,000 less than Minnehaha or Pennington Counties, has the third highest active case count with 112.

Statewide, 95 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19.
