Active COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations on the rise in South Dakota

Active COVID-19 cases in South Dakota rose Tuesday after declining for four consecutive days, while hospitalizations increased for the fourth-straight day.

PIERRE, S.D. — Following are the South Dakota Department of Health COVID-19 case rates, deaths, hospitalizations and vaccinations as of Tuesday, March 30. Because all data is preliminary, some numbers and totals may change from one day to the next.

Statewide case rates

  • NEW CASES: 159 (seven-day daily average: 199)
  • TOTAL ACTIVE CASES: 2,436
  • TOTAL CASES: 117,495
  • TOTAL RECOVERED: 113,124
  • DAILY TEST POSITIVITY RATE: 31.4%

Hospitalizations, deaths

  • NEW HOSPITALIZATIONS: 14

  • ACTIVE HOSPITALIZATIONS: 95

  • TOTAL HOSPITALIZATIONS: 6,985

  • DEATHS, NEWLY REPORTED: 2

  • TOTAL DEATHS: 1,935

Vaccinations

  • INITIAL DOSE ADMINISTERED (IF 2-DOSE VACCINE): 249,042, total: 42.3% of population*

  • FULLY VACCINATED: 163,163, total: 28% of population
