RAPID CITY (AP) - Officials have stopped the spread of a wildfire in Rapid City that has shut down a popular hiking spot and continue efforts to contain the blaze.
The fire on what is known as M Hill started Wednesday night and covered about 13 1/2 acres, or less than a square mile. No structures have been threatened and no injuries reported.
Fire Department spokesman Jim Bussell says about 100 city, county, state and federal fire personnel responded to the blaze. It is being fought on the ground and from the air.
There was no immediate word on the cause, though officials suspect it was human-caused.
Officials say smoke that has drifted over the city could cause problems for people with respiratory issues.
