MONTROSE — The McCook County Sheriff's Office says a mandator evacuation is in effect for part of the community of Montrose.

The evacuation is in effect along First Avenue from Main Street to State Highway 38. The section ordered to evacuate is along the east edge of the city, where the East Fork of the Vermillion River runs. The evacuation must be completed by 2 p.m. Thursday, authorities said.

Highway 38 is also closed at Montrose. An emergency shelter for anyone displaced opening at 1 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church at 109 Second Ave. in Montrose.

In Salem, U.S. Highway 81 is closed south through the interchange with Interstate 90. An emergency shelter for those displaced in Salem is at the Salem Armory, located at 720 N. Peck St.
