With mixtures of icy and wintery weather, Mitchell residents have seen flickers of power issues and could see disruptions in service Monday.
Northwestern Energy spokesman Tom Glanzer said he hadn’t received any reports of outages in Mitchell as of Monday morning, but said service problems could be possible with this type of weather. Residents and area businesses have received reports of flickering lights throughout town.
“When you have ice and wind, it’s certainly possible for tree branches and ice on power lines to become a problem,” he said.
Glanzer added that it is important for residents to treat potential downed power lines like they’re live.
“We’re always thinking about safety issues when we have weather like this,” Glanzer said. “It’s important to have a heightened sense of awareness in these situations.”
The National Weather Service is forecasting an change from rain and sleet to snow this morning. Winds are expected between 15 and 25 mph and daytime snow accumulation is forecasted around 4 inches in the Mitchell area.
