Viola Murtha, 92, Mitchell, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital, Mitchell.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Mitchell. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Artesian. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Will Funeral Chapel, Mitchell, with a 7 p.m. rosary service.
She was born on May 3, 1916, in LeMars, Iowa, to Joseph and Margaret (Elsen) Berg.
When she was 3 weeks old, she moved with her family to Parkston and then to Milltown, where she attended country school.
On Feb. 26, 1946, she married Joseph Murtha in Parkston.

She worked at a café for a short time.
The couple lived on a farm near Parkston and then moved to a farm near Artesian in 1955.
They farmed there until retiring in 2006 and moving to Mitchell.
She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband, a son, James and wife Donna, Mitchell; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, two brothers: Cornelius Berg and wife Mary Jane, Parkston; and William Berg, Leeds, N.D.; and three sisters: Nathalene Remper, Bridgewater; LaVonne Mueller and husband Marlin, Elko, Nev.; and Mary Jane Stock, Pierce, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers: Sylvester, Donald, Raymond and Elmer Berg; and three sisters: Darlene Berg, Florence Larson and Eleanor Hohn.
