Hail pelted Mitchell for about 15 minutes Saturday morning as a thunderstorm rolled through the area.
The hail was between quarter- and golf-ball size and seemed to get bigger from west to east across the city. It began falling at about 8:30 a.m.
About an hour later, a second, brief wave of hail came through the city, this time roughly pea-size. Rain followed each hailstorm, and thunderstorms continued to roll through during the evening.
There were many downed leaves and branches in the city, dents in cars and roofs, and even some reports of broken vehicle windshields.
