Vencil M. "Bud" Knutson, 87, Chamberlain, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, at Waterford At All Saints Memory Care, Sioux Falls.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, Chamberlain. Burial will be in the Swedish Lutheran Cemetery, Ola. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hickey-Wevik Funeral Chapel, Chamberlain, with a 7 p.m. prayer service. The family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m.

He was born on May 11, 1921, in the family home in America Township, to Martin and Blenda (Nelson) Knutson.

He attended Gunderson Country School through the eighth grade.

Following the death of his father in 1946 he took over the full operation of the family farm.

On Sept. 17, 1950, he married Irene Schwiesow.

He served as the treasurer of Twin Buttes Telephone Service until operator service was replaced, served on the Ola Hall Board, and the Swedish Lutheran Cemetery Board as well as being on of the "Ola Players."

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

He moved to Regency Retirement Assisted Living, Chamberlain, and in September 2006 moved to Waterford At All Saints Memory Care.

He is by a son, Kenny, Chamberlain; a daughter, Kathy Harms and husband Bob, Dell Rapids; three grandchildren; a sister, Maxine McCarty, Fallbrook, Calif.; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife in June 1989; a son, Wayne; his parents; and a brother.
