The U.S. Department of Agriculture on Monday announced a round of community funding for infrastructure and facilities projects, which will benefit the Lyman County town of Reliance.
The USDA is allocating a $50,000 grant and $15,000 in loans for the purchase of a new brush fire truck for the Reliance Fire Department. The announcement noted that the fire truck serves an area of 3,755 people in Lyman County.
In other South Dakota projects, the USDA also announced $111,500 in loans and $38,500 in grants for the Vermillion Area Chamber of Commerce and Development Company to update its office building with new equipment and furniture, while the Eagle Butte Volunteer Fire Department received $26,900 in loans and $19,450 in grants to use for protective firefighting gear, including bunker gear.
