PIERRE (AP) - A lawman shot and wounded in a standoff at a mobile home park in Pierre was a city police officer.

KCCR-AM reported the city cop was taken to Avera St. Mary's Hospital where he was treated and released.

The 27-year-old man accused of shooting the officer is in custody in the Hughes County Jail and charges are pending against him.

Authorities had been searching for the suspect after another man was shot and killed Wednesday near Fort Thompson following a vehicle chase. The FBI has released few details other than to say the man who was shot "actively engaged law enforcement" and that no officers were hurt.

The Pierre standoff began Thursday afternoon and stretched into Friday morning. Officers evacuated the mobile home park and a nearby apartment building.
