WHITE LAKE - A 54-year-old man from Georgia was killed Wednesday when his vehicle ran over him on Interstate 90 near White Lake.

William Valentine, of Plainville, Ga., was found lying on the side of the road near eastbound exit 296 to White Lake, authorities say.

A 2013 Ford F250 pickup pulling a flatbed trailer was found in the ditch near the exit. According a Friday report from the South Dakota Highway Patrol, Valentine at some point got out of the vehicle while he was stopped at the exit. The vehicle remained in gear and struck the driver.

When he was found, he was unresponsive and transported to Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell, where he was pronounced dead.

The Highway Patrol continues to investigate. Other agencies at the scene were the Aurora County Sheriff’s Office, White Lake Fire and Ambulance and the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation.
