Up and Get It 4-H Club holds November meeting

The Up and Get It 4-H Club met at 4 p.m. on Nov. 16 at the Mount Vernon School. The meeting was called to order by Presidents Sydney and Logan Tlam. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Logan Tlam and the 4-H Pledge by Kaitlyn Sandland. The secretary's report was given by Kaitlyn Sandland and Lorna Gregerson and approved. The treasurer's report was given by Rylee Deinert and Zach Mikkonen and approved. It was reported that the treasurer's report for the 2013-2014 year has been turned into the Extension.

The roll call topic was "What is your favorite thing to do in the snow?"
Old business:

Awards not received at the Recognition Banquet were handed out.

Members were reminded to re-enroll for the 2014-2015 4-H year online. Also, add leadership, community service and citizenship to your project areas.

The "pop-top-tab" container has been placed at Wermer's Lounge. We will collect pop-tabs to benefit the ronald McDonald House. We need to collect them periodically.

New business:

A motion was made by Autumn Urbigkit and seconded by Rylee Deinert to donate to the Angel Tree. The motion passed. Becky will call in the pledge when they have their phonathon. Kaitlyn Sandland made a motion, which was seconded by Rylee Deinert, to donate socks for the "Sock Tree." The motion passed. The Urbigkit girls will get them. A motion was made by Zach Mikkonen and seconded by Rylee Deinert to buy a gift for the "Be a Santa to a Senior." The motion passed and Kaitlyn Sandland will get the gift. The members will again make fruit and cookie bags for the shut-ins in Mount Vernon. Each member is to bring two pieces of fruit and each family brings one dozen cookies. There will be a gift exchange for those that want to participate (a $5 boy or girl gift). The Christmas Potluck Party for the members and their families was scheduled for Dec. 21 at the Mount Vernon School.

Our club had the 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. slot on Dec. 6 for the Christmas Shopping for Children. The moms that assisted were Mellonie Gregerson, Christy Espedal, Carrie Mikkonen, and Allison Sandland. The members that could assist were Lane Espedal, Lorna, Lainey and Riley Gregerson, Bryanna Sinkie, Kaitlyn Sandland and Zach and Lily Mikkonen.

The meeting was adjourned by Lainey Gregerson and seconded by Lorna Gregerson.

Lunch was provided by the Wieczorek family.

Lane Espedal gave a demonstration on how to make turkey cookies, and led the club in making them for the Mount Vernon Senior Citizens Center.
