Two people suffered injuries in a two-vehicle accident Wednesday in Mitchell.
Mitchell Police Officer Paul Wilson said Marie Kurth, a 42-year-old from Mitchell, was transported to Avera Queen of Peace with minor injuries following the accident, which happened around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of East Fifth Avenue and North Gamble Street. The other driver, 16-year-old Travis Allen, also of Mitchell, was checked by paramedics at the scene for minor injuries.
Wilson said Allen was traveling north on Gamble Street in a 2003 Chevy Malibu. Allen told officers he didn't see the stop sign in time, and slid through the intersection at East Fifth. Kurth was eastbound on East Fifth in a 2010 Ford Fusion owned by Vern Eide. Wilson said Allen's vehicle struck the rear passenger side of the Fusion, sending the vehicle off the road into the area between the road and sidewalk on Fifth Avenue. Allen's vehicle also veered off the road, into the boulevard area between the road and the sidewalk.
Both drivers were wearing their seat belts, according to Wilson. Allen was cited for overdriving road conditions.
