DAVIS — A late night traffic stop in Turner County resulted in two arrests after authorities say they discovered more than seven pounds of marijuana and other derivatives.
In the late hours of Sunday, Nov. 21, a deputy with the Turner County Sheriff's Office was on patrol approximately two miles west of Davis when they say a vehicle was traveling at them at a high rate of speed. The deputy used a speed radar to determine the vehicle was driving 74 mph in a 65 mph zone.
After stopping the vehicle, the deputy claims to have noticed indications of criminal activity — though a Facebook post by the sheriff's office does not detail what indications were observed.
A search of the car allegedly discovered 7.1 pounds of THC oils, wax, edibles and marijuana. The drugs were seized by police, as was over $300 in cash. Authorities took possession of the suspect vehicle, a 2014 Ford Taurus, for further investigation.

The vehicle's occupants, Michael and Ashlyann Saathoff, both 30, both of Sioux Falls, were each charged with possession with intent to distribute over one pound of marijuana, possession of marijuana between one and 10 pounds, possession of a controlled substance, ingestion of an intoxicant, possession of drug paraphernalia and an open container violation. Michael was also ticketed for speeding.
Their charges include a Class 3, Class 4 and Class 5 felonies. If convicted on all felonies, they could be sentenced to serve 30 years in prison, pay a $60,000 fine or both.
The two individuals will be required to appear in a Turner County courtroom on Dec. 14 for an initial appearance.
