An open house will be held tonight for Davison County residents to give feedback regarding the county's road system and its future.

The event is from 5:30 to 7 p.m., with a short, informal presentation at 6 p.m. It will be held at the Davison County Fairgrounds in the meeting hall.

The county and South Dakota Department of Transportation are partnering on a transportation study, which will look at trends and needs in the county. Next spring, the consulting firm hired, HR Green, of Sioux Falls, will produce a final plan, that local decision makers will use to determine which roads will receive the most attention when it comes to road work and upgrades. The open house will provide a venue for the public to hear from state, county and the consulting firm officials.

Written comments will also be received at the meeting and will continue to be received through Dec. 16.

The county is also conducting an online survey to receive feedback about the road system, which can be accessed through the highway department page on the county's website.

The information collected will be combined with quantitative data, such as road studies and traffic counts from the SDDOT.

Officials are also meeting throughout the day today, meeting with key constituent groups such as those with cities and schools, ag producers, landowners, and local businesses to receive feedback.

The study is expected to cost $100,000 and 80 percent of that cost will be covered by state and federal sources, while the county will pay $20,000.
