A semi tractor-trailer crashed Sunday afternoon about four miles east of Mitchell on Interstate 90.

According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, a 2020 Freightliner tractor-trailer was traveling eastbound near mile marker 336 at about 3:30 p.m. when the driver lost control on the ice-covered road. The truck jackknifed and blocked both lanes of eastbound traffic. The driver of the truck, Moises Maldonado, Jr., 39, of Lancaster, California, was wearing a seat belt and was uninjured in the crash.

With the truck blocking the eastbound lanes, another vehicle entered the south ditch and another vehicle lost control and collided with a bridge at mile marker 335 near I-90. No occupants of either vehicle were injured.

Traffic on I-90 was diverted for about three hours.

Charges are pending against Moldanado. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigated the crash.
