RAPID CITY (AP) - Tensions continue to mount over the death of a Native American man who was shot and killed by a Rapid City police officer after the man allegedly charged at the officer with a knife.

Thirty-year-old Allen Locke was shot several times by Officer Anthony Meirose on Saturday after the officer responded to a call of an unwanted person. The South Dakota Department of Criminal Investigation is investigating the shooting.

Rapid City Mayor Sam Kooiker met with some American Indian leaders Monday to discuss race relations and show his support for Meirose and the Rapid City Police Department. Some members of the Native American community were upset with Kooiker's message and others were unhappy they were not invited to the meeting.

Kooiker says he's open to more discussion on race relations.
